If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.
THE ANIMAL SCHOOL
Once upon a time the animals decided they must do something heroic to meet the problems of a “new world” so they organized a school. They had adopted an activity curriculum consisting of running, climbing, swimming and flying. To make it easier to administer the curriculum, all the animals took all the subjects.
The duck was excellent in swimming. In fact, better than his instructor. But he made only passing grades in flying and was very poor in running. Since he was slow in running, he had to stay after school and also drop swimming in order to practice running. This was kept up until his webbed feet were badly worn and he was only average in swimming. But average was acceptable in school so nobody worried about that, except the duck.
The rabbit started at the top of the class in running but had a nervous breakdown because of so much makeup work in swimming.
The squirrel was excellent in climbing until he developed frustration in the flying class where his teacher made him start from the ground up instead of the treetop down. He also developed a “charlie horse” from overexertion and then got a C in climbing and D in running.
The eagle was a problem child and was disciplined severely. In the climbing class, he beat all the others to the top of the tree but insisted on using his own way to get there.
At the end of the year, an abnormal eel that could swim exceeding well and also run, climb and fly a little had the highest average and was valedictorian.
The prairie dogs stayed out of school and fought the tax levy because the administration would not add digging and burrowing to the curriculum. They apprenticed their children to a badger and later joined the groundhogs and gophers to start a successful private school.

You see the young lady; I see the old woman. We're both looking at the same picture, and both of us are right. We see the same black lines, the same white spaces. But we interpret them differently because we've been conditioned to interpret them differently. Unless we value the differences in our perceptions, unless we value each other and give credence to the possibility that we're both right, that life is not always a dichotomous either/or, that there are almost always third alternatives, we will never be able to transcend the limits of our conditioning.

THOUGHTS FROM A PANSY
Something I'll never understand about society or myself is our ability to diagnose and label people, to reduce feats of biology who are infinitely unique and complex to a handful of words. To think we used to view homosexuality as a psychological illness castrating and subjecting them to artificial drowning, scrambling their brains until they were rendered vegetables, slavery, genocide and countless other atrocities as if there is any right or wrong to this thing we call life. I cringe to think about my hand in it all and work hard to see any human action as just that human and I think there in lies the terrifying part our fear of the unknown that if one is capable of engaging in such behavior we all are. Today I try hard to just be an observer to it and myself within it. When we look out at nature we don't say something is right or wrong it is what it is, it's all necessary and why we think we're any different I'll never quite get. It seems more and more clear to me what is wrong one day is socially acceptable the next so far be it for me to judge.

I often think the first mistake I made was settling to know only one school of thought in which to view the world, whether it's medical, spiritual, economical, etc. instead of coming to know each intimately from their beginnings. APPLE DUST UP
I love the recent media blip about Apple tracking its users location as if this is something new or relevant. Its never been about the device for Apple and those like them. The device is just their way into your life a looking glass in many ways to learn more about you capturing your likes, your dislikes, your ideas, and your creativity, etc. their race to bottle the world lol, but as long as the relationship remains win/win I don't see the problem. I think what often happens is people tend to want their cool thing from the future, but not what it takes to develop it and if that's the case create your own, but I doubt few have the courage to do what it takes, and would rather judge and play it safe. If society hasn't learned by now that it's the back end info (human capital) that's really valuable and less to do with the actual product well lets just say I'd hate to know what it means to be you. My personal opinion is that Steve Jobs is a devil, (figuratively speaking) but you have to admire the way he plays the game.

HYPOTHETICALS
Alright I have a hypothetical for you, lets say you take a uniquely macro approach to life. You've been told that you have an engineering mind with a strong literary sense and only 10% of the population thinks similarly to you. In your ignorance and haste you rush into life haphazardly riddled with destruction and mistakes ultimately landing yourself into a bit of trouble; so you say okay I'm going to take a break to really figure all of this out. You obsessively amerce yourself in discovering the meaning of life or lack there of with all of its constraints both natural and artificial. But the more you learn, the more you struggle to come to grips with the answers only matched by a deep desire to lead and direct. But you say wait if only 10% of the population thinks like this what are the chances of connecting with those individuals, these are huge complicated lines of thought and I'm not sure I'm capable of explaining it. Do you seek out the few who fall into that 10% or painstakingly invest in educating others in hopes they somehow start to connect the dots and understand it, because you have plans you want to change things.

I want to revisit a remark that was made earlier that I feel I miss judged a bit. Someone had asked what I had been doing to cherish the meaningful and important connections in my life. I'm assuming this person knew me to some degree at some point in time. I think it has a lot to do with the way you define meaningful and important. A lot of people cling to false entitlements like mother, father, husband, wife, son, daughter, or friend where as I like to view it as just people who either bring out the good or teach you something new about yourself you hadn't known was there and if your really lucky both. I think these individuals or relationships are much harder to come by then we typically allow ourselves to admit and more often than not titles just allow people to go through the motions and become complacent. If you're not accomplishing either of those two ideals well than you can't say they're meaningful or important. A lot of people fill our lives, but few make it worth living and like all things they're fleeting. I can honestly say I've met a very small number of individuals who fit this description and I cherish ever minute that we've spent together.
I think it has something to do with incorporating those experiences and qualities with the intent of passing them along to others.

I consider the writers of any religious texts as the first marketers of their time. It's all about the story which one will you tell?
GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNS AND TOO BIG TO FAIL
I'm so sick of the political posturing and finger wagging from Washington . If I see one
more cheerleader dance around the issues I think I'm going to vomit. Can't we
just admit that republicans typically tend to be Saturnus oriented choosing to
look out for and protect the elderly/capitalism in the country whereas
democrats and Obama clearly seems to be more Jupiter centered focusing on the
poor, the youth, and the future? Both schools of thought are honorable and very
necessary, but it's time to put the egos aside and get things done already.
Here is a perfect opportunity to educate an entire country on
win/win instead of a shallow victory one way or the other. Be the models you’re
supposed to be and do the right thing publicly. I don't think there is a person
out there who says in order for our parents and grandparents to win it should
mean that children, the poor, and the future should lose. The
goal should be a solution that amicably satisfies everyone equally.
Lets look at it from another stand point each day you spend
kicking back your telling the American public at large we don't have to do our
jobs and the rules don't matter (which they don't) and if your still playing by
them regretfully your losing or being taken advantage of in one way or another
in my humble opinion.
We've already said that big business isn't accountable for their
actions or held to the same rules as the rest of society more so than
previously, but contrary to some who view "too big to
fail" as a bad thing I see it as a step forward and ultimately marks the
beginning of the end for the financial sector as we know it. If for no other
reason than the increased numbers of industries and agencies "people"
in the know who aren't playing by the rules eventually (or hopefully) it devalues the whole
system to the point where we can finally get rid of, or abandon a historically corrupt sector
on its way out anyway.
Now I know Washington is probably
just feeling slighted with all the revolutionary and historical events going on
in the Middle East using this shutdown as a
childish ego boost, dusting up media attention to solidify their importance. Which is all well and good if it didn’t mean at the expense of the rest of
society. That's why I'm imploring the rest of the nation to follow suit, to go
on strike and take some RnR. Read a couple legal books and make the decision
not to be the sheep, cattle, robot, or slave and any other clever euphemism you
would like to substitute. If you want to get ahead and do big
important things than put in the painstaking hours it costs to run in the
circles that deal in ideas and influence. Money is little more than a tool or
incentive used for a subset or lower class to accomplish the ends of someone's
dream or vision for the world it's not the objective.
At the end of the day my hope is that people start to wise up and begin to call our leaders and people in power to a higher standard, so that real change occurs and not just a shuffling of sorts and renaming of the same old things.

They want other people to be the way they want them to be. They often want to clone them, and they surround themselves with "yes" people, people who won't challenge them, people who are weaker than they. They lack maturity and a moral center.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
If life is an experiment I try to conduct myself accordingly immersing in it's rich culture, ideologies, philosophies, and history as often as possible. Framing my thoughts and feelings through various mediums as a way of paying homage to the greats throughout history while allowing for my own personal adaptations. Using my blog to preserve my thread in as many different situations as possible, selfishly documenting and coming clean in a way to the rest of the world. Where most would try to hide or deny their humanism with all of its flaws I try to face it head on embracing it to see what if any new discoveries I can find.
As it were we seem to be biologically engineered to only do two things correctly, sex and violence; or if you would like to look at it from a theologian or philosophical stand point 50% good, and 50% evil. Which would mean in any given situation where your forced to make a decision you have a 50/50 chance of doing the right or wrong thing, then a 50/50 shot of that decision working out considering of course we lived in a perfect world.
We've decided that this is too lofty of an ideal choosing to impose rules and systems that shoot the odds astronomically in favor of the negative. I find the whole thing insane really and struggle to understand why then we tack on a social cost for individual failures. If you agree to go along with the madness at least take the time to be aware of it so you might empathize with your fellow man.
If we look at some of the most powerful and successful agencies/structures in the world who see and expect a 90+ percent failure rate why should we hold each other to any other expectation. I'm not insinuating we lower our standards, but sort of find our hearts again in hopes that people start taking more risks, try new things, and follow their dreams. It takes no skill or talent to criticize much more to find the good in an idea or individual with the intent of lending your resources and expertise for the greater good. There's no reward for being selfish, defensive, and uncooperative. That's reserved for the more noble among us.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
If you haven't guessed I'm rather good at hiding my feelings. The funny thing about feelings are the quiet way they seem to ambush us to make a wonderful mess of things. I often think people like myself should have a warning sign stamped on their forehead that reads don't come in.
Frankly I like the way things are I don't depend on anyone and no one depends on me. Free as a bird, my life's my own, but what do I really have some money in my pocket, these fancy threads, an expensive car, I'm single so no strings attached; but I don't have piece of mind and without that well you don't have anything. I keep searching for an answer to it all, you know what's it all about?
At this rate I don't think I'll ever know, I keep waiting for that one person to explain it all, but my tastes are so exquisite I can't seem to find one I like for very long. I guess I'm going to have to do it bigger and better than anyone else until that day arrives.

AN IDEAL AMERICA BORN IN AN IMPERFECT REALITY
It's ironic that either side of the political line would call the tea party extremists when it has always been the obligation of the political and education systems to explain the principles, ideals, virtues, and beliefs this country was built on at length. When you consider the short list of things we're able to prove, that routinely undergo revision, and the fact there remains an ongoing debate as to whether we are even capable of knowing anything the first thing we aught to be teaching our children and society are the rules of the game.
It would seem to me in our current state things are in the reverse, and I think it's long time we called the intellectual and society to admit a higher truth by creating clear lines between schools of thought in a Greek eccentric system.
If we democratise wealth and power, allowing for more competitors to fight over an ever shrinking pie don't we owe some obligation to protect and inform our youth? I don't particularly care how you add the numbers, any calculator can do that, but I am concerned about a persons sense of worth and character, but that's not going to change until we value it. If anything what I'm asking for promotes more competition but in a much healthier fashion.
Personally I don't think we can survive even with this small change if we continue to rely on a currency system and considering it was supposed to be abolished many, many years ago it's time to raise the stakes.

CALLING RELIGION TO A HIGHER STANDARD
After being berated today by a bunch of Christian extremists for my beliefs on a few sensitive subjects I'm left with a sinking feeling in my stomach. Now I don't blame them for their narrow prejudices and ignorant outlooks, but I do the church and organized religion. I mean these poor individuals couldn't even understand that I was on their side and it was their lack of understanding of their own faith that caused such a large error in judgement.
How these ministers stand before their so called "flock of sheep" (what an ironic term by the way) and preach this watered down children's book and believe what their doing is some how good is amazing. If you feel the need to build these ever growing religion complexes filled with plasma TVs and coffee shops at least teach the people that rely on you every Sunday some valuable information. Go into the theology, philosophy, and thinking behind the message and not just the convenient fluff.
It's funny that you believe your doing anything other than setting them up for failure, and if you really cared you would be arming them with the truth. Unfortunately I don't think there's any room at this point for religion to grow beyond the superficial because of your entrenched positions and that to me is a great shame.

A PROVERS STATE
More and more I find myself taking great umbrage with the perverse state of our political system. It's as if our nobly appointed men and woman have forgotten the ideals in which they were forged from. Choosing to indulge in petty squabbling like lowly animals, and behaving like spoiled children. You are supposed to be representing an ideal world with the intent of raising the rest of society to the same state, and yet I see no action or real attempt to educate. It seems as though all of you are content at the level of transcendence you have managed to reach, giving in to such lesser sectors as the symbolic snake. I'm disgusted by the grotesque show of weakness and castration of perfection. It has brought me great sadness to see how quickly we've been willing to abandon our dreams, hopes, and beliefs.
