Thunderbolt, eagle, sceptre and now Nike - these are the attributes of Zeus by the fourch century BC. Sometimes too he holds a shallow libation-dish (Phiale) reflecting the worship that he himself received in domestic cult. He is now more normally statuesque in modern terms, and less a thunderbolt-hurler except on some coins. He has almost become more serious, in the wake of Pheidias classical and human conception and the philosophers demands.
