DEMOCRATS REFUSE TO VOTE ON BILL TO STRIP PUBLIC WORKERS OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING RIGHTS

Dire. Drastic. Draconian.

Call them what you will, but the measures being called for in state capitals to deal with record budget shortfalls are harsher than any in memory and have sparked angry protests from public employees most likely to feel the brunt of them.

In Madison, Wis.,
police were dispatched today when every Democrat in the state Senate failed to show up for a vote on a bill to strip public workers of collective bargaining rights. Thousands of teachers and other state workers have rallied in and around the Capitol, some holding signs comparing the new governor, Republican Scott Walker, to a "Mini-Mubarak" and others chanting "Freedom! Democracy! Unions!" as they protested his anti-labor move and his call that they pay more for their health insurance and pensions. AOLNEWS

The only caveat about unions is their need to expand; the benefits they fight for have to encompass the entire employed population and not just a select few within the fray. It forces those (often management) to work longer hard for less. Which in turn creates instability and bureaucracy within the organization, often leaving employers wondering what if any purpose they truly  serve.

Letting your presence be known only when your rights as a union are threatened isn't winning anyone over, your going to have to restructure and design a new model for success; for unions in principle are important and serve a very valuable purpose. It's an issue of implementation and branding that currently disrupts your ability to act effectively.
